Things Aren't Always As They Seem

Years ago, a new girl joined our church's youth ministry team. At the time, we did a lot of "criss-cross applesauce" sitting, and one day I noticed the new girl had absolutely perfect posture.

It was posture so good it actually made me feel bad about my own posture.

For months I was obsessing over correcting my posture. I started noticing how everyone around me sat to see if I was the only sloucher. I never realized I sat like a gremlin until she came along... It was tough to beat this habit, and no matter how hard I tried, for some reason, I never felt quite as upright as this girl.

One day, I approached the new girl and complimented her impeccable posture. Her response:

"Oh, thanks! I have a metal rod in my back that makes it impossible for me to slouch."

*facepalm* 🤦🏽‍♂️

Your competition might make twice as many sales as you. They also might have 5x more debt.

That social media "influencer" might be all hat, no cattle (as we used to say in the oil field). Perhaps 50,000 followers, and no profits.

Your neighbor might have parties all the time, but no genuine friendships.

➡ Things aren't always how they seem. Stop tormenting yourself because someone else appears to have something you don't.
